Mr. Allen McKay
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what amount of British aid to the African countries is used to promote increased local food production.
Mr. Raison
Since food and other forms of agricultural production are not readily distinguishable even at farm level, no separate figures for British aid to promote local food production alone are available. Our aid to agricultural and related activities in sub-Saharan Africa in 1984 totalled £66 million.
