asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many cars, vans and trucks are purchased by Government Departments each year; and what is the breakdown of these statistics by make of vehicle and by Department.

This information is not held centrally and would only be obtainable at disproportionate cost. Each Department is responsible for purchasing its own vehicles and in the year to 30 October 1985 my Department purchased 75 vehicles comprising 28 cars (18 Austin Rover, 10 Ford), 44 vans (40 Ford, two Freight Rover, two Bedford) and three Land Rovers.
