asked the Secretary of State for Defence what steps he is taking to commercialise the results of publicly funded defence research and development.

Commercial exploitation is sought and encouraged through the British technology group, the patenting of inventions and direct contracts between the Department and industry.These arrangements are now complemented by the activities of Defence Technology Enterprises, a private sector company established as a joint initiative with the specific purpose of identifying ideas with commercial potential and arranging for their exploitation.
