asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the consultations between his Department and trade unions on the future of the royal dockyards.

The future of the royal dockyards has been discussed at industrial and non-industrial Whitley committee meetings at both national and local level. In addition, a consultation group has been set up within the Department, chaired by the under-secretary heading the dockyard planning team; this is being used as a forum for discussing the future of the dockyards with trades unions at national level.
