asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the principles underlying his Department's safety requirements for those who carry passengers for hire and reward.

It has been the policy of successive Governments to see that those who carry passengers for hire and reward by whatever mode comply with high standards of safety. We are continuing that policy.
