Mr. Douglas
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the latest figures for the take-up of attendance allowance, invalid care allowance, mobility allowance and severe disablement allowance.
Mr. Newton
The latest available information about the number of recipients of these benefits is as follows:
Attendance allowance
- 469,000 (estimated) at 31 March 1984.
Invalid care allowance
- 10,400 at 18 November 1985.
Mobility allowance
- 400,400 at 25 November 1985.
Severe disablement allowance
- 227,300 at 22 October 1985.
I regret that it is not possible to give estimates of take-up, in view of uncertainties about the numbers of people who might be entitled to these benefits.
