asked the Prime Minister whether any of her Ministers have discussed with representatives of banks or any other commercial organisations Government support, endorsement or approval for loans or guarantees to Liverpool district council at any time since the end of June; and if she will make a statement.

The Department of the Environment has informed the commercial organisations concerned that deferred purchase arrangements undertaken by local authorities do not require Government approval. These arrangements carry no Government guarantee.
