asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any plans to seek to amend the legislation governing the conservation of the countryside, with particular reference to compensation payments to landowners, in the light of the recent Lands Tribunal ruling awarding compensation in respect of Iffen Wood against Canterbury district council; and if he will make a statement.

We have not yet received the transcript of the Lands Tribunal's decision, but will study its implications urgently when it is available.
