asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what consultations Her Majesty' Government have had with the United States Government about President Reagan's new doctrine called competitive strategies, as announced to the United States Congress b Mr. Caspar Weinberger on 9 January;(2) if he has made an assessment of the impact upon He Majesty's Government's defence policy of President Reagan's competitive strategy announced by the Unite States Secretary of State for Defence on 9 January.
The references to competitive strategies contained in the United States Defence Secretary's report to Congress for FY88/FY89 are not new. Her Majesty' Government maintain close contact with the United State Government in many areas of defence policy, but there have been no specific consultation on or assessments of th doctrine of competitive strategies.
