asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many officers and men have sought early retirement from the submarine service and from the Royal Navy as a whole for each of the last five years expressed also as percentage of the total number of serving men.

Requests by officers to transfer to nonsubmarine duties are rare and figures are not recorded. The numbers of ratings who requested transfer to nonsubmarine duties are as follows:
