asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his latest estimate of the cost of building the western extension of the Docklands light railway; and what sum, or proportion of the total, will be met from public funds.

The latest estimate of the cost of building the western extension of the Docklands light railway is approximately £130 million at outturn prices. The proportion of this sum to be met from public funds will depend on the outcome of negotiations curently taking place between London Regional Transport and the consortium proposing to develop the site at Canary Wharf.
