asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the motorway and trunk road schemes for which he intends to award a contract in the year ending 31 March 1987 but which are expected to remain outstanding at that date.

Contracts expected to be let in 1986–87 were listed in my answer to my hon. Friend the Member for Macclesfield (Mr. Winterton) on 20 June 1986 at columns 664–5. Of the 34 contracts, four are expected to remain outstanding at 31 March 1987. They are:

A19 Peterlee FlyoverTenders to be invited in June or July 1987; Contract planned to be let in August 1987.
A34 Hanford Grade Separated JunctionTenders to be invited in March 1987; Contract planned to be let in May 1987.
A49 Leominster BypassTenders invited and are due back in April 1987; Contract planned to be let in May 1987.
A418 Leighton to Linslade BypassScheme hs been delayed by a challenge in the High Court.
Three schemes additional to those listed were let in 1986–87, as follows:

A48 Baldersby Junction Improvement
A69 Hexham to Corbridge Remedial Works
