asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any plans to recommend to local authorities that they computerise their local search procedures.

I am pleased to note that a number of computer firms are developing systems specially designed for local authority land charges and other records. I hope that local authorities will give serious consideration to the installation of such systems which will help them to give an improved service to home buyers.
