asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why payments of monetary compensatory amounts due to Northern Ireland farmers for purchases of cattle in the Republic of Ireland during the months of August, September, October and November 1986 still remain unpaid; and if he will make a statement.

Under Community regulations the monetary compensatory amounts to which the hon. Member refers are paid by the Irish authorities on receipt of proof that the cattle have arrived at their intended destination in Northern Ireland. Provision of this proof in documentary form is provided by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise. As the claims in question await payment by the Irish authorities I am not able to provide the information the hon. Member requires.
