asked, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he has had with the Turkish Government as to the withdrawal of Turkish troops from Cyprus; and if he will make a statement.

This is an issue which we have regularly raised with the Turkish Government. The withdrawal of foreign troops will obviously have to form part of any comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus dispute. We believe that the United Nations Secretary General's initiative is best placed to achieve such a settlement; and we therefore give his efforts our full support.
