asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth. Affairs if he will make a statement on the visit by his hon. Friend the Minister of State the Member for Mid-Sussex (Mr. Renton) to India, with particular reference to discussions concerning an Anglo-Indian extradition treaty.

My hon. Friend the Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, the Member for Mid-Sussex (Mr. Renton) visited India on 9–12 December 1986. He had profitable discussions on a range of issues, including the possibility of concluding an extradition treaty with India. A further round of consultations between legal experts took place in New Delhi in February at which useful progress was made.
