asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much his Department has spent during 1986–87 to the latest available date in relation to proposals to privatise the water industry.

The latest forecast of expenditure in 1986–87 on work in preparation for the privatisation of the water authorities is as follows:

Office Services25,000
These figures do not include certain other costs, such as accommodation, which are borne centrally.
