Anstey Lane (Road Safety)

9.35 am

I beg to ask leave to present a petition on behalf of the governors, parents, teachers, staff and pupils of English Martyrs comprehensive school, Anstey lane, Leicester and the Beaumont Leys school, Anstey lane, Leicester and of local residents and Leicester citizens following the tragic death of Lisa Szymczak, aged 15, on 12 February 1987, outside the English Martyrs school, Anstey lane, a road with notorious hazards which all previous efforts have failed to remedy.

The humble petition is that this House
Will urge the Government to ensure the taking of immediate steps to make the Anstey Lane safe for the pupils, teachers and staff of the English Martyrs School and of the Beaumont Leys School and for local residents, and to remove the dire hazards that led to the tragic death of Lisa Szymczak.

More than 12,000 people have signed this petition, which I present to the House. It is the most earnest wish of Lisa's family that there should be no other tragedies here or elsewhere on the roads due to lack of resources and failure to take the necessary steps to avoid such awful occurrences in future.

To lie upon the Table.
