asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he has now received the full text of the Sampson report on the conduct of the Royal Ulster Constabulary and related matters.

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will make a further statement on the Sampson inquiry into matters concerning the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

I understand that Mr. Sampson submitted further material to the Chief Constable of the RUC recently. A copy was also given to the Director of Public Prosecutions. When the whole report has been received by the Chief Constable and the DPP(NI) and the Chief Constable has had an opportunity to place his comments before the DPP, the DPP will decide, after consultation with the Attorney-General, what directions to give as to criminal proceedings. As I have already informed the House, I will make a statement to Parliament at the earliest appropriate time on any aspects of the report that fall within my responsibility.
