asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the central Government rate support grant per head of population for 1986–87 and 1987–88 for (a) Northamptonshire, (b) Derbyshire, (c) Leicestershire, (d) Bedfordshire, and (e) Cambridgeshire.

Rate support comprises block grant and domestic rate relief grant. Counties do not receive domestic rate relief grant.The figures for 1986–87 are authorities' entitlements based on budgeted expenditure information at first supplementary report.The figures for 1987–88 are authorities' initial entitlements to grant based on expenditure figures returned on form BG78, modified if necessary to include an estimate of the cost of the teachers' pay settlement.
