asked the Secretary of State for Scotland which authorities or bodies made representations to him prior to the award of his authorisation to Babcock-Thorn to dispose of radioactive waste at Rosyth dockyard.

The following local authorities and public bodies responded to consultation:

  • Fife Regional Council
  • Fife Health Board
  • Dunfermline District Council
  • Forth River Purification Board
  • Lothian Regional Council
  • asked the Secretary of State for Scotland which bodies were invited to make representations about the award of the nuclear site licence to Babcock-Thorn.

    Her Majesty's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate sought the views of the Ministry of Defence, the Industry Department for Scotland, the Scottish Development Department and Babcock-Thorn.

    asked the Secretary of State for Scotland on what occasions since 1974 nuclear site licences have been awarded without any consultative process.

    I am advised by Her Majesty's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate that during the period in question no licence has been awarded in respect of a new nuclear installation without consultation.
