asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what criteria govern the listing of food additives on the labels of food.

All food additives that perform a technological function in the final food must be shown on the labels of pre-packaged foods in the list of ingredients. The information must show the function that the additive performs in the food by specified category followed by the specific name of the additive or its approved serial number (or both). At present flavourings only have to be shown under their category name. Non pre-packed foods need declare in a label or notice only the main categories of additives present.
