asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the adequacy of testing procedures for food additives; and if he will make a statement.

Yes. The independent expert committees that advices the Government on the health aspects of food additives has produced guidelines on the types of tests and information it requires and on the way in which particular tests should be conducted. The committees advises us that these tests provide the best means currently available to provide the data concerning the likely health effects of food additives.
