asked the Secretary of State for Defence what defence contracts have been placed with Marconi and Plessey, respectively, in the past three years.

It is not the practice of the Ministry to reveal details of contracts placed with individual contractors for reasons of commercial confidentiality. However, the overall values of contracts placed with the Marconi and Plessey groups of companies during the last three years are approximately £1·7 billion and £0·9 billion respectively.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many former employees of his Department have been given permission since 1979 to join the board of directors of (a) Marconi and (b) Plessey.

The number of Ministry of Defence personnel, and former staff, including serving and former members of the Armed Forces, granted approval to join the boards of companies in the Plessey and Marconi groups since 1979 are as follows:
