asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will now increase funding specifically on cervical and breast cancer screening programmes.

Health authorities have been required to give priority to improving their cervical cancer screening programmes within their existing resources. Total funding to HAs is to rise by 6 per cent, in April 1987 over the previous year.The Government are urgently considering their response to Professor Sir Patrick Forrest's report on breast cancer screening and will make a announcement shortly.
