asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the total sum paid by the Metropolitan police to the private contractors in respect of the penalties paid on wheel-clamped vehicles during December 1986.

The Commissioner of the Police of the Metropolis has informed me that a total of £86,747·59 was paid to the contractors for their work on clamping carried out between 1 December and 27 December 1986.
