asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he has yet considered the implications of the proposals made by the Bath district health authority on both the Bradford on Avon and Melksham hospitals; and if he will make a statement.

The Bath district health authority has not yet decided whether to propose any changes in services at the Bradford on Avon and Melksham hospitals. Ministers would become involved only if any formal proposals to reduce or significantly to change the use of beds at these hospitals were produced which could not be agreed with the community health council.
