A consultation paper on the implementation in the United Kingdom of the European directive on environmental assessment was issued jointly by the Secretaries of State for the Environment, Wales and Scotland in April 1986. This paper outlined the legislative proposals (including those in relation to projects in England and Wales which fall to be approved under the Town and Country Planning Acts) which it is proposed to bring into effect by statutory instrument under the European Communities Act 1972 beore 2 July 1988, the date by which the directive requires member states to take measures to comply with the directive.
