asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many acres of derelict land have been cleared in the northern region in each year since 1979; and at what cost.

Since 1979, the following areas of land in the northern region (the counties of Cleveland, Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear) have been reclaimed with the assistance of derelict land grant:
