asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners have access to integral sanitation; how many are obliged to slop out; what plans he has to improve toilet facilities in prisons; and if he will make a statement.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many places in prisons have been provided since June 1983 in (a) newly built prisons, (b) existing premises acquired for use as prisons and (c) additional places in existing prisons.

The following additional new prison places have been provided since June 1983:
