asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will list, in tabular form, proposals put to him involving tertiary colleges since 1979, indicating in each case whether the proposals were approved, modified or rejected, the reasons for each rejection, the number of students at each tertiary college proposed and whether there was an existing sixth form college.
Information is not available in precisely the form requested. The table lists the statutory proposals published since August 1979 which involve the establishment of tertiary colleges, and shows whether these proposals were approved or rejected by my right hon. Friend or his predecessors. Information on the reasons for each rejection, on the number of students at each proposed tertiary college, and on whether there was an existing sixth form college, is not recorded centrally and could only be provided at disproportionate cost.
