asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science further to his answer of 28 April, Official Report, columns 98–9, if he will make it his policy that no reductions in grant will be made to reflect the abolition of domestic rates payable by universities on residential accommodation for students.

The Government's plans for funding the universities are set out in the public expenditure White Paper (Cm 56). The UGC has no plans to change the system for reimbursing universities' rates payments in full.
