asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Lightning, Phantom and Tornado squadrons are currently tasked with United Kingdom air defence.

As at 1 April 1987, there were two Lightning and five Phantom squadrons available for United Kingdom air defence tasks. One of the Phantom squadrons has begun to re-equip with Tornado F3 and is planned to become operational as a Tornado squadron later this year.
