asked the Paymaster General if he will estimate the numbers of unemployed people who have benefited from the Government's employment measures since May 1979; and if he will make a statement.

It is not possible to give a precise number. Certain of the schemes benefit both the employed and the unemployed. However, since May 1979, over 6ยท5 million people have benefited from the employment, training and enterprise measures run by my Department and the Manpower Services Commission.
