Mr. Nicholas Soames, supported by Mr. Denis Howell, Mr. George Robertson, Mr. Archy Kirkwood, Sir Eldon Griffiths, Mr. Charles Morrison, Mr. Richard Holt, Mr. John Carlisle and Mr. Andrew MacKay, presented a Bill to exempt races, athletic sports and other sporting events from the entertainments and amusements to which the Sunday Observance Act 1780 applies and to allow betting to take place on Sunday afternoons on tracks and on certain Sunday afternoons in betting offices: And the same was read the First time; and ordered to be read a Second time upon Friday 29 January and to be printed.
