To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many patients from the City of Aberdeen and Grampian region each year since 1978 have been required to attend hospitals outside the area of Grampian health board for open-heart surgery; what has been the average waiting list for each quarter of the year; and what has been the average waiting time of patients awaiting such surgery.

[holding answer 26 October 1987]: This information is available only from 1983 (when the cardiac surgery register was established), and for patients resident in the whole Grampian health board area. Information on this basis is set out in the table.
