To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what information is given to local residents when top soil, taken from an area where there was a nuclear accident response exercise, is deposited in the vicinity; and what tests are made of the radioactive level of the soil;(2) if he will invite representatives of local residents to inspect sites where nuclear accident response exercises a re carried out; and if he will give them the opportunity to he told of the safety measures taken.

I refer the right hon. Member to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Stoke-on-Trent, North (Ms. Walley) on 4 November, at column 748. In view of the stringent precautions taken, I see no valid reason for the suggested inspection of locations where nuclear accident response exercises take place.
