Unit General Managers

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list, for each district health authority within the Mersey region, the numbers of unit managers currently employed, the date of their appointment and the total cost in salaries to the district of such appointments.

The pay structure for unit general managers comprises five grades with individual posts graded according to the revenue budget and teaching status of the unit. The 1986–87 annual pay rates for these grades are:

UGM 225,500
UGM 323,000
UGM 420,000
UGM 516,500
In addition, a discretionary amount of up to 15 per cent. of the grade rate may be added to reflect the different weights of individual posts, and unit general managers whose performance is assessed as meritorious are eligible for further additions in the form of performance related pay.The number of unit general managers posts in each grade is as follows:

Mersey RHA

Yorkshire RHA
