To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the total number of bed losses in National Health Service hospitals in each district health authority for each year since 1982; and how many of them were acute beds.

[holding answer 24 November 1987]: The available information is given in tables which have been placed in the Library. The tables also show for the acute sector the numbers of in-patient cases treated by each health authority between the years 1982 and 1986. For England as a whole the number of in-patient cases treated has risen by 10ยท9 per cent.
