To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what field trials are conducted for the testing of service men's personal equipment, uniform, hats, helmets and boots.

A series of field trials is normally carried out before any new item is introduced into service, culminating in a major trial of the final prototype by service units in all relevant conditions for periods of up to 12 months.
