To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations his Department has received from the Greater Manchester police authority concerning the costs of the new maintenance provisions introduced by British Telecom; what reply has been sent; if there is any action he will be taking; and if he will make a statement.

The Department has received a letter from the Greater Manchester police authority and has replied to the effect that this is a matter for agreement between the authority and British Telecom.
