To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services when the "Pregnancy Book", published in 1984, will be published in languages other than English; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 3 December 1987]: The Health Education Authority, which publishes the "Pregnancy Book", has no plans to issue it in languages other than English. It does, however, publish the following leaflets in five Asian languages (Gujerati, Punjabi., Urdu, Hindi and Bengali):

  • A Healthy Pregnancy
  • Maternal and Child Health Clinics
  • Why You Need Vitamin D
  • Are You Pregnant?
  • Breast Feeding
It also supports the production of videos in Asian languages. These include "Be Prepared: Be Happy", a 20-minute video in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Gujerati, Punjabi and Mirpuri.
