To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many applications have been received by the Local Enterprise Development Unit during 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987 for grant aid to manufacture hydraulic rams; how many were successful; how many have been turned down, what was the reason for refusal; and if he will list the applications under each heading.

[holding answer 7 December 1987]: I am informed that the number of applications involving the manufacture of hydraulic rams considered by the LEDU in the past four years was as follows:

In the two unsuccessful cases I understand that LEDU considered that neither had sufficient prospects of commercial viability.
