To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make it his policy to increase the hill livestock compensatory allowance payable to farmers, in view of the drop in beef cattle numbers.

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food announced on 9 December 1987 the arrangements which will apply in the United Kingdom to the 1988 hill livestock compensatory allowance scheme. I have nothing further to add.
