To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what percentage of policemen and women have received official firearms training;(2) how many police officers are currently undergoing firearms training.

Information in the form requested could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. However, at 31 December 1986, there were 8,395 authorised firearms officers, some 7 per cent. of the total police strength in England and Wales.
