To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will seek powers to prohibit the dumping of sewage sludge in Channel waters; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 7 December 1987]: No. This Ministry has all the necessary powers and uses them in order, among other things, to ensure protection of the marine environment, the living resources which it supports and human health, and to prevent interference with legitimate uses of the sea.
