To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the cost to the Exchequer for the last year of capital gains tax relief where compulsory purchase has been involved; and how many cases there have been.

About £3 million on the basis of receipts in 1986–87. Information is not held centrally on which to base an estimate of the number of cases involved.
