To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what progress is being made with regard to the claim of Mrs. C. James, of Birmingham B23, regarding damage caused to her home by acid leaking from the battery-operated wheelchair supplied by his Department's contractors; why Mrs. James has not been kept informed about such progress; and if he will make a statement.

The matter to which the hon. Member refers is the responsibility of the Disablement Services Authority. However, I understand that the authority has now written to Mrs. James to find out the cost of the damage caused so that compensation may be paid.
