To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what assessment he has made of the impact of light dues on the fishing industry.

Further to the reply I gave my hon. Friend on Thursday 2 July, at column 156, the extension of the liability to pay light dues to fishing vessels will ensure the maintenance of the Racal Decca navigator system, which is so important to skippers, not only as a navigational aid but also in locating the fishing grounds. And fishermen will save money because the cost of navigator receivers, which were previously only available for hire, has been reduced substantially this year.
