To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has as to how much Swiss Vacherin Mont d'Or cheese was withdrawn from sale in the United Kingdom following his warning on 25 November.

The system put into operation in the event of a food hazard such as this involves contact with all local authority environmental health departments and the revelant trade interests so as to get the food removed from sale. Central and local publicity was aimed at advising members of the public to return any of the Swiss Vacherin Mont d'Or cheese which they had already bought. We do not routinely collect information on the results but past experience shows the system to be fully effective and there is no suggestion that it was not so in this case.
